February 25th at 2:00 pm Jeff Whetstone gave lectures on his current work. The other lecturers included Lesley Martin, Daniel Gordon, and Jem Southam.

Microscopy: Transforming Scientific Data into Visual Metaphors

In March 2014 at the 51st SPE National Conference in Baltimore, Maryland panelists Jeff Whetstone, Daniel Kariko, and Michael Oliveri discussed their more recent artwork created using Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) ordinarily used for Scientific imaging.  The panel addressed multidisciplinary approaches to creating photographic images and videos using scientific equipment, often in dialogue and collaboration with scientists in addition to sharing their own work resulting form such collaborations.  The panel discussed the possibilities of developing hybrid curriculum that create a bridge between art and science, emphasizing the possibilities of cross-disciplinary work within university environments.
